OverviewSkinwalkers are creatures from the Navajo culture that are believed to be witches that can shapeshift into animals, often depicted as birds, coyotes or wolves to inflict harm. They often are depicted to be on all fours and can be both male and female. There are several types of skin-walkers in Navajo beliefs, and it is a significant part of their culture that is rarely talked about with people outside of it. In turn this has been heavily misinterpreted by non-Navajo people. A person becomes a skinwalker after committing a heinous act, such as murder. |
